Julie Cooper, MSW
Julie Cooper is a mother, a social worker, and a postpartum doula. She earned her master's degree in social work from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2000. Julie has enjoyed working with families in many capacities- with special needs birth-to-three-year-olds through NC's early intervention program, and as a birth and postpartum doula, providing emotional, physical and practical support and information to laboring and postpartum women and families. Julie co-founded UNC Hospital's BirthPartners doula program, a volunteer-staffed birth doula program that now serves as a model for other hospital-based doula programs. In 2001, Julie started and led a support group for pregnant women, and for several years, was an active member of La Leche League (an international support group for breastfeeding mothers). In 2004 and 2005, she volunteered with Durham's Welcome Baby Program, providing infant care information and regular phone support to new mothers. Julie finds great joy in supporting and working to empower couples and individuals as they make the often daunting, always miraculous, transition to becoming parents.

Jennifer J. Brodie, BA, LCCE
Jennifer Joyce Brodie is a mother to 3, a Lamaze childbirth educator, teacher, birth doula and certified Spanish/English interpreter. She has more than 10 years of experience in the classroom teaching Spanish to native English speakers and English to speakers of other languages.  She has also taught grades K-12 and basic and advanced classes for adults. For three years, Jennifer taught English to migrant workers’ children in south Georgia and served as a liaison between migrant families and the school system. Later she served as a case worker for at-risk children and families in the Latino community in Minneapolis, teaching parenting skills and acting as their advocate in the health care system. She became interested in pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding and parenting prior to the birth of her first child in 2000. Since then, she has trained with Doulas of North America (DONA), the Association of Labor Assistants and Childbirth Educators (ALACE), and Lamaze International.  Jennifer is also a legal and medical interpreter and was one of the first certified Spanish interpreters in the Minnesota State Court System. She has extensive experience with breastfeeding and has been a La Leche League member since 2000.
